New Orleans Auction Galleries is pleased to present our December 11-12 Estates Auction featuring The Collection of Adam Lippes. Highlights include an important double portrait by Jose Francisco Xavier de Salazar y Mendoza, as well as an extensive selection of fine jewelry just in time for the holidays. The auction also features antique and modern furniture, fine art and decorative objects from the collection of fashion designer Adam Lippes, including pieces from his homes in Brooklyn Heights and the Berkshires. Most notably, the sale offers the contents of Lippes's iconic tented room featured in the July/August 2019 issue of Architectural Digest.

Jose Francisco Xavier de Salazar (Mexican/New Orleans, 1750-1802)

'Portrait of Marie Cesaire Dreux de Gentilly (1781-1826) and Her Step-Mother, Genevieve Felicite Trudeau de Longueuil Dreux (1770-1802)'
This impressive double portrait of Marie-Cesaire Dreux de Gentilly and her stepmother Genevieve Felicite Trudeau de Longueuil Dreux by Jose Francisco Xavier de Salazar was commissioned by Guy Dreux de Gentilly around the time of his 1787 marriage.

Semi-Antique Portuguese Needlepoint Carpet, ca. 1940s

Part of the collection of fashion designer Adam Lippes, this impressive Portuguese needlepoint carpet was acquired from the New York gallery of Doris Leslie Blau and featured prominently in the July/August 2019 issue of Architectural Digest. It can also be seen in the background of fashion shows held at his Brooklyn Heights home for his eponymous clothing brand.

Studio of Sir Peter Lely, R.A. (British, 1618-1680)

'Portrait of a Gentleman in Armour and Lace Cravat, Landscape in Background, Probably Sir Thomas Myddelton, 2nd Bt. (1651-1684)'
Another version of this stunning portrait is conserved at Chirk Castle, a Grade I listed castle in County Wrexham Borough, Wales.
